Merry Christmas Color Palettes!

Whoohooo!

It’s Christmas time and I am SO looking forward to some relaxing fun with friends and family! It’s been quite a year on many levels but right now I just want to focus on joy, peace, and love and the spirit of giving this Holiday Season.  One fun new thing I got to experience this year was the opportunity to be a Christmas Tree designer for the local Boys and Girls Club charity event – “The Festival of Trees”.  For two weekends in the month of November I tinseled, bedazzled, and adorned four fabulous trees that were eventually auctioned off to the highest bidders to benefit our local Boys and Girls Club. The other designers and I had glitter coated in our hair and skin for a good three weeks afterwards (glitter is sticky stuff!), but it was worth the sparkling residue, especially seeing the finished trees on display. The colors were amazing so I decided there was no better way to finish 2016’s color palette series then with color inspiration from the four trees I designed! Enjoy!

“Woodland Rapsody”  – (this one is 100% inspired for my sister)

“Black Tie Affair”  – (my black & white tree – and side note, it won a 1st prize ribbon!)

“Mele Kalikimaka” Palm  – (inspired for my Hawaii Ohana)

OH, and one more thing…

some Christmas caroling fun carpool karaoke style as only James Corden can do!  Wishing you a Very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, lots of Peace, Joy, Love, Wellness, & Fabulous Fun in 2017!

Feeling Stressed?

I absolutely love this week before Thanksgiving. Anytime we can eat good food and be with family and friends is the best, however the raw reality is that it can also be a very stress inducing time. There is so much going on … whether you are meeting deadlines before the holiday break, participating in school and work functions, preparing for visiting family and friends, adjusting to the weather change, or just plain feeling a knot of stress that you should have started your Holiday shopping weeks ago and now all the ads are out and the frenzy has begun.  Whatever it is for you I know that when I’m feeling this way I turn to yoga.

My favorite online yoga teacher, Colleen Saidman Yee, has a wonderful series of blog posts on stress management, finding inner peace, and all over well-being advice through yoga. Check out her website HERE to see more.  One in particular is a stress reducing series she did for yogajournal.com (when you open the link just scroll down to see the photo slides with instructions – you will need 2 blocks). I am in love with this series and like all of her teachings this one hits right at home with easy inversions, back bends, side stretches, and chakra focused savasana. I highly recommend it.

Wishing you peace, love, and light this Thanksgiving

Ebru Art

Photos from Ebru Art

You may not have heard the term Ebru Art before but at one point you most certainly have seen this beautiful marbled painting technique on products in the store.  It is an ancient art form that has been practiced for centuries, originating in Turkistan in Central Asia and known to Europeans as “Turkish Paper” since the 1600’s. In the most simplest of ways to explain how this complicated art is created ~ it is a dance performed by the artist working to manipulate floating paint pigments on the surface of thickened water, creating a desired image or pattern and transferring it to paper. I am not doing this description justice because it is such a skilled and practiced craft, but to learn more click HERE and HERE. Below are two OUTSTANDING and mesmerizing short videos to watch by Turkish Ebru Artist Garip Ay.  Beautiful is an understatement.  Enjoy!

Meeting a hero ~ The Amazing Danielle LaPorte

MEETING-DANIELLE-LAPORTE

I had such a FABULOUS evening listening to the amazing Danielle LaPorte speak in Hollywood at the beautiful Wanderlust Center! When I heard she would be in town I think I was one of the first to nab a ticket, and I’m so happy I did because the event was sold out.  It was, in true Danielle LaPorte fashion, a beautiful night of kick-ass wisdom, life supporting and soul recharging philosophy, and real deal encouragement and love.  How refreshing it was to see her in person BE exactly who I know her to be in her books and blog.  Her transparency and realness is greatly appreciated, especially in the world we live in today.

There were so many takeaways from the evening but the best illustrative example I can make is the #Truthbomb that was on my seat when I entered the room (sidenote – I actually lucked out with a seat in the front row!). “Be the exception” was my particular Truthbomb and I have it now hanging on my studio wall.  (Yes – I asked Danielle to sign it as well as my Desire Map book.) Be the Exception is my mantra now – and I encourage everyone to take on that truthbomb for themselves. When we all strive daily to be the exception to the norm, to the rule, to the temporary ideal that is permeating but not necessarily enriching our environments, then I believe we can start being the change we want to see in this world.

Summer Outing: Smorgasburg LA

smorgusburg la

If you’re in the Los Angeles area I want to highly recommend you head over to LA’s newSmorgasburgSundays in downtown’s budding Alameda Produce Market. Modeled after a similar market in Brooklyn, this new and oh-so-fun event is hitting the town by storm! Parking is ample (a rarity here) and there are loads of fun vendors with amazing foods and products to sample and pick up. From gorilla tacos, ramen burgers, papaya smoothies, and tear drop cakes, to artisanal breads, raw nuts, and even hand produced organic essential oils … there’s a little bit of everything for everyone!  My family and I went last weekend with my sister and brother in law and we ate our way through the amazing vendors!  It was so much fun and in reflecting back I can’t say that I had one single favorite stop but I do have one take away item that I’m still dreaming of and that was the Papaya Smoothie.  For my husband it was the Gorilla Tacos and my son it was the Popdup tea.  To see the list of vendors click HERE.  :0)

Sacred Space – Color Palette & so much more

Sacred-Space-Color-Palette

For Mother’s Day I had the most beautiful afternoon in Summerland, CA, highlighted by a visit to the amazing and magical “Sacred Space” shop (really it isn’t just a shop, it’s more of an experience). The owners, Rose and Jack, make this little corner of the world such a beautiful event for every visitor they receive. You feel like you’ve stepped into a portal and transported yourself to another land and space in time. Rose and Jack truly ‘walk the walk’ of what their store represents and feels like and Rose’s graciousness is felt immediately upon entering by her offering of tea in her zen gardens at the center of the property.  Little raised gazebos are hidden amongst dense foliage around a small koi pond and river where you sit on cushioned sofas and enjoy a service of specialty tea. It is breathtaking and so relaxing. Shopping in their store is like a wonderland experience. Their offerings of jewelry, statues, stones, crystals, candles, etc… that they have gathered on their travels are exceptional and also a means to support talented artisans from around the world. If you are in the Santa Barbara area I encourage you to stop by ~ just be sure to allow yourself a few hours.  This is not a place you want to rush through.

One more note:  on my bucket list is their Sacred Space Private Retreat. Oh my gosh! One day I’m going to be there!

Color Palette: Blood Orange

I’m pretty obsessed with blood oranges; their colors are spectacular and their flavor is sublime. heart

For an amazing springtime & summer treat try picking up some blood oranges to make a sorbet. Lately I’ve gotten in to making fresh berry and citrus sorbets (with and without an ice cream maker) and I am loving using the formula by BusyInBrooklyn to make just about any combo you can dream up! Have fun and enjoy the sweetness!
